A 70th Birthday Celebration For Ron Asheton

Ron Asheton

The Stooges legendary guitarist Ron Asheton would be turning 70 on July 17. That night in his former hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan, a very impressive cast of musicians will pay tribute to him at The Blind Pig. The singers and musicians include Mike Watt of the Minutemen (and Ron’s former Stooges band-mate), J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. (who played with both Ron and Scott Asheton), Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux, Mario Rubalcaba from Off!, Johnny Evans of The Howling Diablos, Mudhoney’s Mark Arm, and Gumball’s Don Fleming (both Mark and Don played with Ron in The Wylde Ratttz.) These fellow band mates and very special guests will be performing songs from The Stooges and Funhouse.

The show is being produced by the Ron Asheton Foundation, with proceeds from the show going to the Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The foundation continues the personal style of charity work that Ron spent so many years quietly doing for abused, abandoned and orphaned animals in the Ann Arbor community where he had such strong ties. Since 2011 The Ron Asheton Foundation has granted nearly $40,000 to organizations including the Humane Society of Huron Valley, Animal Welfare League NSW, Anjellicle Cats Rescue, and the Alcona Humane Society.
